Cyclonic Storm Brings Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms to Odisha: A cyclonic storm currently active over South Bangladesh and adjoining areas is bringing widespread thunderstorms and heavy rain to Odisha. The system is expected to remain active until October 9, with its effects likely to persist for the next 3 to 4 days, especially in coastal and north interior districts of the state.

According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, another cyclonic system is likely to develop over the North Bay of Bengal by October 10, though it is not expected to intensify significantly.

Weather Warnings Issued

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for 24 districts across Odisha today, forecasting rain accompanied by thunder. In addition, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Kendrapara districts have been placed under a yellow alert for heavy rain with thunder on October 10.

Authorities have advised residents, especially in low-lying and coastal areas, to stay alert and take necessary precautions during this period.

Rain Disrupts Normal Life in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar experienced sudden and intense rainfall on October 8, causing waterlogging and traffic congestion across various parts of the city. Around 12:30 pm, dark clouds swiftly covered the sky, followed by heavy rain, thunder, and lightning. Several roads were submerged, and vehicle movement was significantly affected.

Interestingly, October 9 began with clear skies and sunshine in the capital. However, around the same time—12:30 pma similar formation of black clouds was observed, signaling the likelihood of more rain.

Meteorologists have warned that the ongoing cyclonic activity could intensify localized weather events, including thunderstorms, lightning, and temporary flooding in vulnerable areas.

Citizens are urged to monitor official updates, avoid unnecessary travel during peak weather conditions, and ensure safety during thunder and lightning occurrences.
