Reports confirm that landslides have struck multiple areas, including Mirik and Sukia, disrupting normal life, damaging infrastructure, and severing vital road links. The main road between Darjeeling and Siliguri has been completely blocked, severely hampering movement and relief efforts.
Widespread Disruption in Communication and Traffic
Relentless downpours have crippled road transport and cut off communication lines in many areas. Access to and from hill regions has become nearly impossible due to continuous landslides and waterlogging.
Other affected districts include Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, and Cooch Behar, where waterlogging has inundated several low-lying areas, further aggravating the situation.
National Leaders Express Condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow over the disaster in Darjeeling.
