Ayodhya’s Grand Deepotsav: From Saryu Aarti to 2.6 Million Diyas, Break Global Record
Deepotsav 2025: Ayodhya’s 2.9 Million Lamps Poised To Break Global Record: Ayodhya has kicked off its Deepotsav celebrations with a historic achievement, setting a Guinness World Record as over 21,000 people participated in the grand Saryu Aarti on the banks of the Saryu River. Conducted on Saturday, the event surpassed the previous record of 1,774 participants, with the official count verified through QR code scanning, according to Guinness World Records officer Nischal Barot.
The city is now preparing for an even more spectacular feat on Sunday during the ninth edition of Deepotsav. Plans are in place to light 2.9 million earthen lamps across 56 ghats at Ram ki Paedi, with the help of 30,000 volunteers. The Guinness team used drones to count the lamps and verify the record attempt, which is set to surpass all previous lighting displays globally.
With Ayodhya decked out like a bride, the Deepotsav is expected to mesmerize visitors and viewers alike. Beyond setting records, the celebration reflects the city’s deep spiritual roots and is helping cement Ayodhya’s identity as a global center of cultural and religious heritage. The official record announcement will be made during Sunday’s main event in the presence of the Chief Minister.
