Indian Army’s Firepower Gets Boost as Defense Ministry Clears ₹79,000 Crore Deal
Defence Ministry Approves ₹79,000 Crore Military Procurement to Boost Army, Navy and Air Force Capabilities: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved proposals worth ₹79,000 crore to strengthen India’s defence forces. The acquisitions include advanced systems for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, focusing on enhancing operational readiness, firepower, and mobility across different terrains and domains.
For the Indian Army, the approved purchases include the Nag Missile System (Tracked) Mk-II (NAMIS), Ground Based Mobile ELINT System (GBMES), and High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) equipped with material handling cranes. These systems will improve the Army’s ability to neutralize enemy targets, gather real-time electronic intelligence, and enhance logistical mobility in challenging environments.
The Indian Navy will acquire Landing Platform Docks (LPDs), 30mm Naval Surface Guns, Advanced Light Weight Torpedoes (ALWTs), and smart ammunition to enhance maritime strike and amphibious operation capabilities. Meanwhile, the Air Force will receive the Collaborative Long Range Target Destruction System (CLRTS), aimed at boosting automation in take-off, landing, navigation, and surveillance. The proposals will now move to the Cabinet Committee on Defence for final approval.
