DU: Now colleges and institutes will open from 8 am to 8 pm

Delhi University Notifies 12-Hour Class Schedule: Now, colleges and institutes in the University of Delhi will open from 8 am to 8 pm. DU has taken this decision to maximize the use of the college’s resources. DU has also issued instructions in this regard. Along with this, 40 40-hour per week working period is being implemented for teachers. Teachers are objecting to both these decisions. Teachers say that these decisions will put an unnecessary burden on both teachers and students.

DU has clarified through a notification on July 31 that this decision has been taken after discussions in the Executive Council meeting on July 12. In this meeting, issues related to the implementation of the fourth year in the new academic session were discussed. The fourth year of the Undergraduate Course Framework 2022 has started under the National Education Policy 2020. In this way, many students have taken admission in the fourth year.

Delhi University classes open from 8 am to 8 pm

DU has advised colleges to function from 8 am to 8 pm through a notification. The notification states that the deployment of faculty and staff should be staggered to achieve this and ensure the availability of faculty and staff during this period. Dr Pankaj Garg, chairman of the teachers’ organization INTACH, said that we oppose these steps. He said that the current structure is already under pressure and only increasing the time will not give any concrete results, rather it can harm the academic environment.

There is no solid academic basis for extending the institute’s timings. This may lead to a loss of academic focus and unnecessary burden on both teachers and students. He said that this move may be problematic for women teachers, staff, and girl students, especially when there is no proper arrangement for safe and reliable transport and campus security. This decision appears to have been taken without consultation with the teachers’ association, employees’ union, and student representatives.
