Now you will not have to pay extra charge for cancelling flight tickets
DGCA New Flight Rule: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has announced a new rule. That allows you to cancel or change your ticket within 48 hours of booking without any extra fees. Airlines currently charge extra for cancellations, causing significant losses for passengers. This new rule will eliminate this hassle.
Free Cancellation up to 48 Hours: According to the DGCA’s new rule, passengers will have a 48-hour look-in period after booking. During this time, they will be able to cancel their tickets or change their travel dates without any fees. If the new ticket is more expensive, they will only be charged the difference in fare. This service will not apply to flights booked within five days of domestic booking and within 15 days of International booking. The new rule also stipulates that the ticket must be purchased from an agent or a travel portal.
Even then, the airline will be responsible for the refund. The DGCA has stated that agents will be considered authorized representatives of the airline. This means that the airline, not the agent, will now be solely responsible for refunding money after ticket cancellation. Airlines will be required to complete the refund process within 21 working days, thus relieving passengers of long waits.
Relief in Medical Emergencies: The DGCA has also shown flexibility in cases of medical emergencies. If a passenger has to cancel a ticket due to a health issue, the airline can either refund the full amount or issue a credit shell, which can be used later. If a passenger requests a name spelling correction within 24 hours of booking, they will not be charged any fees.
