6 months wait for approval, why?
Dhadak 2 is a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal (2018), which talks about casteism. Its co-producer Meenu Arora has told that it was not easy to convince the Tamil film’s producer Pa Ranjit. Meenu had to run around for 6 months to get the remake rights from him. Because Pa Ranjit had a doubt that the original meaning and soul of the film would be lost if a remake is made in Bollywood. It took Meenu 6 months to convince him. Finally, when he saw how emotionally invested Minu was in this project, he said yes. Minu believes that it is very important for such stories to be to be told in different languages. The distance and yearning in love due to caste discrimination is what makes Dhadak 2 special. It directly hurts human emotions.
The film’s scenes and dialogues were heavily censored, what was removed?
Then in a country where every issue is weighed on a scale of being sensitive and hurtful to the feelings, it was quite possible that the film would have got stuck in the censor board. However, according to the makers, the film was already finalized after being checked on all parameters. But despite this, the censor board cut it and 16 cuts were made in Dhadak 2. The film has been given a ‘U/A 16+’ rating, which is a maturity category one level below ‘A’.
