India, China may resume direct flights next month after four-year gap
Direct Flight Service To Start Between India And China: Direct flights between India and China will begin next month after a gap of five years. The Indian government has directed airlines like Air India and IndiGo to be ready for this.
However, before the closure of the airline, Air India and IndiGo were operating flights to China along with Chinese airlines like Air China and China Southern.
China has been in talks with India for this for a long time. However, sources have revealed that India has taken this decision after a rift in India’s relations with the US, after Washington imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods after India purchased Russian oil.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, in August, where he is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, travelling to China via an indirect route via Hong Kong and Singapore would have cost more and taken more time.
However, after five years, China also opened the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route for Indian pilgrims from 2025. There were attempts to resume direct flight services in January and June, but the plans were stalled amid diplomatic tensions. But now, there has been new progress in the last two weeks.
