Earthquake of Magnitude 5.6 Hits Afghanistan: Afghanistan was once again struck by a powerful earthquake in the early hours of Wednesday. There is no report of any casualties caused by this earthquake. The government is evaluating the damage caused by the earthquake.

As per the National Center for Seismology (NCS), a magnitude 5.9 earthquake has hit Afghanistan. The earthquake hit at 04:43 am on Wednesday morning based on Indian Standard Time (IST). Posting the details on X, NCS stated that the earthquake happened at a depth of 75 kilometers. Its epicenter was in the Hindu Kush mountain range. Earlier, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck Tajikistan. This was also the third earthquake in the Asian country in the past two days. On Sunday, two earthquakes were felt in Tajikistan, the first measuring 6.1 and the second measuring 3.9.

Why do earthquakes occur in Afghanistan?
Afghanistan is located close to the Himalayan tectonic plates, where there is a constant collision between the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate. This collision causes frequent earthquakes in Afghanistan.
