Veteran nuclear scientist M R Srinivasan, passes away at 95

Famous Nuclear Scientist M R Srinivasan Passed Away: Renowned nuclear scientist and former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission M R Srinivasan died in Chennai on Tuesday. Family sources gave this information. He was 95 years old and is survived by his wife and a daughter. District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanniru paid tribute to Srinivasan by offering flowers on his mortal remains.

Srinivasan worked with Dr. Homi Bhabha in India’s indigenous nuclear energy program. He was awarded the prestigious civilian honor ‘Padma Vibhushan’.

Played an important role in the construction of the nuclear research reactor ‘Apsara’
It is said that he was also the chief project engineer for the country’s first nuclear power station. He worked with Dr. Homi Bhabha in the construction of India’s first nuclear research reactor, Apsara.

In 1987, he was appointed Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy and also became the founding Chairman of Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited.

He was an important part of Homi Jhangir Bhabha’s team
Srinivasan joined the Indian Atomic Establishment in Mumbai in 1955, during which time he got the opportunity to work with Dr. Homi Bhabha, the father of India’s nuclear program and he was an important part of Bhabha’s team.
