Ganesh Visarjan: Dos and Don’ts to follow before bidding farewell to Ganpati
Ganesh Visarjan: What to do and what not to do, Know The Ritual: Ganpati Bappa, the first of all gods. During the 10-day-long Ganeshotsav, people install Bappa for different days. Ganesh ji is installed for 3, 5, 7, or 10 days as per one’s wish. The 10-day Ganpati is immersed on Anant Chaturdashi, and Ganeshotsav also ends on the same day.
Some important rules for Ganesh Visarjan have been mentioned in Hindu religious scriptures, which every devotee should follow. It is said that if these things are not taken care of during Ganpati Visarjan, then the full benefits of 10 days of worship are not achieved.
Important Rules for Ganesh Visarjan
- Face Towards the House
While taking Lord Ganesha for immersion, his face should be kept facing the house. This symbolizes Bappa giving blessings to the home and family before leaving. - Perform Aarti Before Departure
Before the immersion, worship and perform Aarti of Ganpati Bappa with devotion. Offer fruits, flowers, betel nut, rice, turmeric, 21 durva (blades of grass), kumkum, and sweets as part of the farewell ritual. - Red Cloth Remedy
As a prosperity remedy, wrap a coconut or betel nut along with turmeric and rice in a red cloth and keep it in your safe or locker before immersion. It is believed to bring wealth and blessings. - Offer Prasad (Modak)
During the final puja, offer five modaks—Bappa’s favorite sweet—to Lord Ganesha. After the offering, distribute the prasad among all family members and devotees. - Immersion at Home (Eco-friendly Option)
If possible, immerse the idol at home in a clean vessel or bucket filled with water. Later, respectfully pour the water under a tree or in plants, maintaining environmental sanctity. - Chanting and Parikrama
Before immersion, do three parikramas (circumambulations) of the idol in a clockwise direction. Chant “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Agle Baras Tu Jaldi Aa” and recite the Ganesh Mantra with devotion. - Seek Bappa’s Blessings
Before bidding farewell, bow at Bappa’s feet and seek his blessings for wealth, health, happiness, and family prosperity. This marks a heartfelt goodbye and invokes his return next year.
