Hyderabad Doctor Accused of Making Ricin for Terror Plot
Gujarat ATS Foils Major Terror Plot, Arrests Three With Deadly Ricin and Weapons: In a major anti-terror operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Monday (November 10) arrested three individuals in possession of chemical substances and weapons. The ATS revealed that the accused were planning to carry out large-scale terror activities across the country. The main accused, Dr. Ahmed Mohiuddin Sayeed from Hyderabad, had allegedly converted his home into a laboratory to manufacture ricin, one of the world’s deadliest poisons.
According to the ATS, the accused had planned to extract ricin and mix it into drinking water and temple offerings in major cities, including Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow. Ricin, derived from castor beans, is a highly toxic substance that can cause severe organ damage and death. Once inhaled or ingested, it disrupts protein production in cells, leading to respiratory failure and death within hours if untreated. Experts note that there is currently no antidote or vaccine for ricin poisoning, though early medical intervention can reduce its effects.
This case has raised serious concerns as ricin has been used in several high-profile attacks worldwide. In 1978, Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov was assassinated in London using ricin, and in 2014, a U.S. man was sentenced to 25 years for mailing ricin-laced letters to President Barack Obama. The Gujarat ATS has launched a deeper investigation to uncover potential links of the accused with other terror networks, while nationwide alerts have been issued to prevent similar threats.
