Heavy Rainfall Alert To Odisha , The deep depression over Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal weakened on Friday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it moved northeastwards with a speed of 20 kmph during the last 6 hours. It was located 60 km west-southwest of Tangail in Bangladesh, 110 km west-northwest of Dhaka, 120 km northeast of Berhampur in India and 300 km west-southwest of Shillong. It is likely to move northeastwards and intensify into a favourable low-pressure area during the next 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall (more than 20 cm) for the northeastern states. Odisha is likely to experience isolated light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers and winds speed of 40-50 kmph till June 1.

On Friday, heavy rainfall with thundershower is likely at one or two places in Kalahandi, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Nabarangpur districts. In addition, wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph with gusts reaching 60 kmph is likely to occur in Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balangir, Boudh, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Puri, Nayagarh, Khordha, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal and Gajapati districts in the afternoon or evening. Wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph are likely to occur in coastal Odisha till May 30.

In addition, the southwest monsoon has completely covered Malkangiri, Koraput and Gajapati districts. It has also covered most of the areas of Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha and Puri districts.
