Cloudburst causes Landslide in Himachal: 2 Dead, 20 Missing In Kangra District
Himachal Cloudburst: 2 Dead, 20 Missing In Kangra: Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing continuous rain for the last several days, due to which the situation has worsened in many districts of the state. On Wednesday, a cloudburst caused sudden floods in many districts. This caused massive destruction. Two people died in the flood in Kangra, and 15 to 20 workers went missing. Officials said that two bodies were recovered in Kangra district. The bodies have not been identified yet.
Kangra DC Hemraj Bairwa said about the workers, ‘We have recovered two bodies. Teams of SDRF, police, SDM, and district administration are on the spot. We are counting people to find out the number of missing people. More information is awaited. The situation is not as serious as it is being portrayed. There is a small hydroelectric project near Manuni stream. Some workers lived near it. It is the confluence of many streams. Due to heavy rains, the water level rose, due to which some people were washed away. The two dead are being identified.’
Himachal Flash Flood
Not only this, three people have gone missing due to a cloudburst in the Sainj Valley areas of Banjar sub-division of Kullu. Two to three houses have also been washed away. Apart from this, the water level has also increased in many areas of the Manali sub-division. Different teams of SDRF are engaged in rescue operations. A car also got washed away in the sudden flood due to a cloudburst. This information was given by Kullu Deputy Commissioner Torul S Ravish. Officials said that at least four incidents of cloudburst occurred in Banjar, Gadsa, Manikaran, and Sainj of Kullu district.
In Kangra’s Thural area, two hours of rain flooded the market, causing a lot of trouble to pedestrians and shopkeepers. The Chokhang-Nainghar road in the tribal area of Lahaul’s Udaipur subdivision was also blocked when the nearby river suddenly swelled. This damaged the road.
The vehicular movement on this route was stopped. An HRTC bus also got stuck as a part of the road was washed away. Apart from this, a suspension bridge near Jasrath village collapsed due to the rising water level of the Chandrabhaga river, cutting off the irrigation scheme.
The weather department has further issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh. Shimla will receive heavy rain for the next seven days. This means that the weather will remain bad till July 1. An alert for heavy to very heavy rain has been issued in Chamba. An alert for heavy rain has also been issued for Kangra, Mandi, and Solan for June 26. There is also a warning of a flash flood in Sirmaur and Shimla.
