Natural Remedies To Remove Sun Tan At Home

How To Get Rid Of Tanning Naturally: Our skin remains the most affected by the strong sunlight. The most common of these is tanning. Tanning takes place when a person’s skin comes under the direct sunlight. Because of the harsh sunlight, the skin gets divided into two colors-this is called tanning. There is no burning sensation or pain in it. The change in color is what really happens to the skin. Mostly, the visible portion of the hands undergoes the tanning effect.

Easy ways to remove tanning:

  • Lemon and honey
Lemon works as a natural bleaching agent while honey serves to moisturize the skin. Combine lime juice with honey, in equal quantities. Apply on the tanned area and wash it off after 15-20 minutes. Apply 2-3 times a week.
  • Aloe-vera gel
Aloe-vera gel cools and heals the skin. Extract fresh aloe-vera gel and apply it to the tanned areas overnight. Wash it off in the morning. This can be repeated every day.
  • Yogurt and Turmeric
Yogurt contains lactic acid, which exfoliates the skin, while turmeric is anti-inflammatory and helps lighten the tan. Mix a pinch of turmeric with 2 tablespoons of yogurt and wash off the paste after 20 minutes. Repeat 2-3 times weekly.

What are the causes of tanning?

  • UV rays: The harmful rays of the sun cause pigmentation of the skin. This occurs because of the increased production of melanin. Melanin is a protective substance for the skin against UV radiations coming from the sun, and when these rays are subjected for a much longer period, the melanin is also produced in excess to quite an extent thereby darkening the skin color.
  • Sun Exposure: From the peak time of sun hours, between 10 am and 4 pm, in case it is left standing without sunscreen on, tanning occurs. That is, UV rays enter into the skin and increase melanin production, which in turn darkens the skin.
  • Tanning Beds: If we come in contact with artificial sources of UV rays such as tanning beds and sunlamps, they emit UVA and UVB rays. These rays enter the skin and cause tanning. Apart from showing signs of aging and damaging the skin, prolonged use of tanning beds also causes skin wrinkles and other damages.
