Dubai Air Show Shocked as IAF’s Tejas Jet Crashes; Investigation Ordered
IAF Tejas Fighter Jet Crashes During Dubai Air Show Stunt; Pilot Killed, Court of Inquiry Ordered: An indigenous Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed during an aerobatic display at the Dubai Air Show on Friday, resulting in the tragic death of the pilot. The accident occurred around 2:10 pm local time when the HAL-made fighter jet nose-dived while performing a stunt, sending thick black smoke billowing across the venue as stunned spectators watched.
The Dubai Air Show, being held from November 17–21 at the DWC Dubai Airshow site, was in its final phase when the incident took place near the runway of Al Maktoum International Airport.
IAF Confirms Fatal Crash
In an official statement, the Indian Air Force said:
“An IAF Tejas aircraft crashed during an aerial display at the Dubai Air Show today. The pilot lost his life in the accident. The IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands in solidarity with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”
The aircraft was performing a display sortie when it suddenly nose-dived, leading to the fatal crash.
Court of Inquiry Ordered
The IAF has initiated a court of inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident. Initial visuals showed the jet losing control mid-maneuver before crashing near the airstrip. Emergency response teams immediately rushed to the scene as smoke enveloped the area.
Hundreds of visitors, including children and families, witnessed the shocking moment as they had gathered to watch the aerobatic displays on the air show’s concluding day.
CDS Expresses Condolences
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan expressed deep grief over the loss of the pilot. A statement issued by the Integrated Defence Staff said:
“General Anil Chauhan, CDS, and all ranks of the Indian Armed Forces express their deep sorrow over this incident. We deeply mourn the loss of life and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”
The Tejas aircraft, a symbol of India’s indigenous defence capability, was participating in its international display when the tragic incident occurred.
