6G Coming By 2030: IIT Hyderabad Develops Prototypes
India Makes Breakthrough In 6G Technology, Nationwide Rollout Targeted by 2030: India has taken a major leap forward in the next generation of wireless communication with the successful testing of a 6G prototype by IIT Hyderabad in the 7GHz band. According to a PTI report, this cutting-edge technology — expected to be rolled out by 2030 — will offer ultra-fast connectivity across cities, villages, skies, land, and sea, vastly surpassing the capabilities of current 5G networks.
Professor Kiran Kuchi of IIT Hyderabad explained that every decade brings a new wave of mobile technology, and India is now at the forefront of 6G innovation. IIT Hyderabad has designed a low-power system chip that supports both terrestrial and satellite communication, serving both civilian and defense sectors. The institute is also developing advanced 6G–AI chipsets, potentially positioning India as a key player in the global tech ecosystem.
Experts believe that 6G will revolutionize experiences with AI, AR/VR, autonomous mobility, and remote operations across sectors like healthcare, education, manufacturing, and disaster management. With strong government support for indigenous innovation in chip design, networks, and AI, India is not only keeping pace with global tech developments — it’s becoming a trendsetter. By 2030, this 6G push is expected to be a cornerstone in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.
