What is the Airspace rule saying?

Airspace refers to part of the atmosphere covering the land and sea. So, this airspace is segmented into various parts to provide safety at the maximum standards as well as to ensure free flow of movement of aircraft. Article 1 of the Convention states sovereignty over airspace.

This means that every state has complete and exclusive sovereignty over the airspace above its territory. Furthermore, the territory of any state includes all inland waters, territorial seas, and those waters extending 12 nautical miles (22.2 km) from the coast. While airspace is defined as that space above the territorial limits of any state, it would fall under the category as international.

The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention) define clauses relating to airspace. Accordingly, it says that countries may enter into agreements to exercise control over a segment of international airspace.
