IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Varanasi After Fuel Leak During Refueling: A major air tragedy was narrowly avoided yesterday (October 22) at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport when an IndiGo Airlines flight (6E-6961) from Kolkata to Srinagar made an emergency landing following a reported fuel tank leak. The flight, carrying 166 passengers and crew, landed safely at 4:10 pm, averting a potential disaster. Airport and airline authorities confirmed that all on board are safe and were promptly evacuated after landing.

According to the Varanasi Police Gomati Zone, the pilot detected a fuel leak warning mid-air and immediately contacted Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Varanasi to request an emergency landing. The airport authorities swiftly activated emergency protocols, ensuring a clear runway and mobilizing rescue and fire teams as a precautionary measure. The pilot’s timely decision and coordinated efforts of the ground crew ensured the safe landing of the aircraft without injury or damage.

Following the incident, the technical team began inspecting and repairing the aircraft to determine the cause of the leakage. Airport officials stated that the flight would continue to its destination only after thorough safety checks. This incident comes less than two weeks after another IndiGo flight (6E-7253) from Madurai to Chennai made an emergency landing on October 10 due to a cracked front windshield, highlighting the need for continued vigilance in aviation safety.
