ISRO’s ‘Bahubali’ Rocket launched on Sunday
The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) communication satellite CMS-03, weighing over 4,400 kg, was launched on Sunday. The space agency said that the satellite, weighing around 4,410 kg, is the heaviest satellite to be launched into geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) from India’s soil. The satellite was launched using the LVM3-M5 rocket, which has been named ‘Bahubali’ for its heavy lifting capacity.
ISRO’s LVM3-M5 carrying the CMS-03 communication satellite was launched from SDSC/ISRO Sriharikota today. The Indian Navy’s GSAT 7R (CMS-03) communication satellite will be the Indian Navy’s most advanced communication satellite to date.
This satellite will strengthen the Navy’s space-based communication and maritime domain awareness capabilities. This satellite is India’s heaviest communication satellite to date, weighing approximately 4,400 kg. It incorporates several indigenous state-of-the-art components, specifically developed to meet the operational requirements of the Indian Navy.
Bengaluru-based space agency ISRO said the launch vehicle has been fully assembled and integrated with the spacecraft and has been moved to another launch site here for pre-launch operations. ISRO said LVM3 (Launch Vehicle Mark-3) is ISRO’s new heavy-lift launch vehicle and was used to place the 4,000 kg spacecraft into GTO in a cost-effective manner.
