ISRO’s 101st EOS-09 satellite mission fails

ISRO’s PSLV-C61 Satellite Mission Failed Minutes After Takeoff: The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched the 101st satellite, EOS-09 this morning, but the launch was not successful. The satellite malfunctioned within 9 minutes after launch. ISRO launched the satellite from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The EOS-09 (Earth Observatory Satellite) mission was launched at 5.59 am on Sunday through the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C61).

ISRO Chief V Narayanan said that the first and second phases of the mission were successful, but a flaw was detected in the satellite in the third phase. EOS-09 was a follow-on mission of the previously launched satellite RISAT-1, but the launch failed. The purpose of launching the satellite was to keep an eye on infiltration and suspicious activity in India in the anti-terrorist mission.

How important was the mission for the country?

ISRO chief V. Narayanan said that the satellite’s job was to click pictures of the Earth and send information so that data could be obtained for important tasks. With the help of the satellite, every activity happening on the border was monitored. The satellite is very special because it is a part of those satellites that keep an eye on the Earth and find out what changes are happening during the day and night. The satellite would help in work like agriculture, forestry, disaster management, and security. It would even help keep an eye on the country’s borders, especially LOC and LAC.

According to information received from ISRO, the height of the EOS-09 satellite is 44.5 meters, and its weight is 321 tons. The mission was made in 4 phases, and the EOS-09 satellite was to be placed in Sun Synchronous Polar Orbit (SSPO). The Earth Observatory Satellite, designed with remote sensing, is a C-band synthetic aperture advanced observation satellite, which has a radar installed, with the help of which high-resolution pictures of the Earth can be taken during day and night in any weather. This mission would have been launched for 5 years and would have ensured the security of the country.
