Mokama Murder Case Shakes Bihar Polls: JDU Candidate Anant Singh Arrested in Killing of Jan Suraj Supporter

A shocking murder in Bihar’s Mokama constituency has triggered political uproar ahead of the Assembly elections. JDU candidate and former MLA Anant Singh was arrested late Saturday night in connection with the murder of Dularchand Yadav, a 75-year-old Jan Suraj supporter. The incident occurred on October 30 during a violent clash between rival groups amid election campaigning. Dularchand, who was campaigning for Jan Suraj’s Piyush Priyadarshi, died from injuries sustained in stone-pelting and firing.

According to Patna SSP Kartikeya K. Sharma, Anant Singh has been named the main accused in the case. Two of his associates — Manikant Thakur and Ranjit Ram — have also been arrested based on eyewitness testimonies and post-mortem findings. Singh, known as “Chhote Sarkar”, has been a five-time MLA from Mokama and is contesting the current election on a JDU ticket under the NDA alliance. Following his arrest, he was taken to Patna for interrogation. The police have also arrested around 80 suspects in connection with recent disturbances in the area.

Patna DM Dr. Thiagarajan S.M. confirmed that investigations have been ongoing for 48 hours and the situation in Mokama has now stabilized. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has suspended several officials, including the Returning Officer and the 12th SP (Rural), for failing to prevent the violence. With the first phase of Bihar elections scheduled for November 6, authorities have assured strict monitoring to maintain peace and ensure free and fair polling.
