Karnataka Govt Plans to Curb RSS Activities in Schools, Minister Priyank Kharge Urges Ban
Karnataka Cabinet Takes Major Step: RSS Activities Banned in Government Schools and Colleges: The Karnataka government is considering the introduction of new rules to restrict the activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) within government school and college campuses. State Minister Priyank Kharge announced on Thursday that he has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to issue strict instructions prohibiting government officials and employees from participating in programs organized by the RSS and similar organizations, citing the Karnataka Civil Services (Conduct) Rules.
In a letter dated October 13, Kharge referred to provisions in the conduct rules that clearly state no government servant shall associate with political organizations or movements. Despite existing regulations, he expressed concern that several officials have been seen taking part in RSS programs. He demanded a strict directive reinforcing the separation of state employees from politically linked organizations, especially on government property and campuses.
The minister also revealed he had received threats over the phone after publicly calling for the ban, though he has not filed an official police complaint. He shared a video of the threatening call on social media, which drew concern from the state leadership. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured that Kharge’s security would be enhanced, while Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated the threat was being taken seriously. Meanwhile, the BJP criticized the move and challenged Kharge to impose a statewide ban on the RSS.
