What is the story of the film?
The story of the film ‘Maa’ begins in Chandarpur village of West Bengal. Here, the wife of the owner of a big mansion is giving birth. Meanwhile, a grand puja of Maa Kali is going on in the mansion. The woman gives birth to a son, the news of which is given to her husband and the people involved in the puja. Everyone is happy. But then it is revealed that she is going to have twins. The second child is a daughter, who becomes the cause of everyone’s sorrow and is sacrificed. There is a tree in the ruins behind the mansion, about which it is said that a demon lives in it. The demon is about to attack the villagers, but he stops after the girl dies.

Now 40 years have passed since this incident. The boy born that night, Shubhankar (Indranil Sengupta) has grown up now. Shubhankar lives in Kolkata with his wife Ambika (Kajol) and 12-year-old daughter Shweta (Kherin Sharma). He has kept a distance from his village Chanderpur and has hidden from his family that he is the father of a daughter. On the other hand, his daughter has also never seen Chanderpur. You will know why this is so after watching the film. The twist in the story comes when Ambika and Shweta actually reach Chanderpur and face many difficulties including the tree demon. Now Shweta’s life is in danger and Ambika will have to risk her life to save her. This demon will die only with the blessings of Maa Kali. In such a situation, how Ambika will awaken the power of Maa Kali and how will she save her daughter is what is to be seen in the film.
How is the movie?
There is no doubt that Maa is a weak film set in the Shaitan universe. If you have seen Shaitan, you must have liked it. Despite its shortcomings, the film came up with a great story that has rarely been seen in Bollywood before. The film had great actors like Ajay Devgan, R Madhavan, Janaki Bodiwal and Jyothika. Here you have Kajol, who is carrying the film on her shoulders. She is supported by Indranil Sengupta, whose role is quite small, and Ronit Roy. The performance of the actors in the film is good. But the lack is in the story and screenplay.
