“Jana Nayakan” Faces Uncertain Release as HC Hearing on Censor Certificate Scheduled
Madras High Court to Hear Petition on Vijay’s “Jana Nayakan” Censor Certificate; Release on January 9 in Doubt: The release of actor-turned-politician Vijay’s highly anticipated film Jana Nayakan faces uncertainty as the Madras High Court takes up a petition regarding the delay in issuing the film’s censor certificate. The hearing, deferred on Tuesday, is now scheduled for Wednesday, raising concerns about the film’s planned theatrical release on January 9.
The film’s producers, KVN Productions, had approached the court seeking directions to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to expedite the certification process. The CBFC had reportedly viewed the film on December 19 and suggested certain changes, which the makers implemented. Despite this, the certificate has not been issued, causing delays in advance bookings in Tamil Nadu and Telugu-speaking states. Single-screen theater owners are reportedly cautious, fearing last-minute complications, while audiences in Karnataka, Kerala, and overseas markets have already shown strong enthusiasm, with some morning shows selling out at premium prices.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Deputy General Secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar has expressed concerns over the delay, suggesting that it might not be a mere technical issue. He clarified that the party does not wish to politicize the matter but emphasized that legal action would be necessary if the certification process continued to be delayed. The delay has already impacted the film’s business prospects, especially in regions where advance bookings are pending.
Jana Nayakan, directed by H. Vinod, stars Thalapathy Vijay alongside Mamita Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol. Its release coincides closely with Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, setting up an intense box office clash. With all eyes now on the Madras High Court and the CBFC, fans and the film industry eagerly await clarity on whether the film will hit theaters as scheduled.
