Ajay Kumar Bhalla Given Additional Charge as Nagaland Governor After La Ganesan’s Demise
Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla Given Additional Charge Of Nagaland: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla was given the additional charge of Governor of Nagaland on Saturday (August 16). This post was vacant after the death of Nagaland Governor La Ganesan. 80-year-old Ganesan died last Friday during treatment at a private hospital in Chennai.
A government release said, “Due to the demise of Shri La Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland, the President has appointed Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland in addition to his duties.”
Bhalla was appointed as the last Governor of Manipur
IAS officer (retired) Ajay Kumar Bhalla was appointed as the Governor of Manipur by President Draupadi Murmu last year. Bhalla is a retired IAS officer of 1984 batch. He was appointed Union Home Secretary on August 22, 2019. He has served as the Home Secretary of India for nearly five years till August 22, 2024.
7 days of state mourning in Nagaland on the death of La Ganesan
Meanwhile, after the death of Governor La Ganesan, a state mourning of 7 days (16 to 22 August) has been declared in Nagaland in his honor. The state government announced this. During this time, the national flag will fly half-mast on all the buildings in the state. Expressing grief over the demise of Jagannath, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that he will continue to inspire the coming generations. He worked tirelessly to strengthen the bond of unity and promote development in Nagaland.
He breathed his last in a private hospital in Chennai
La Ganesan was made the 19th Governor of Nagaland in the year 2023. Earlier, he has also played the role of Governor (additional charge) of Manipur and West Bengal. On August 8, La Ganesan suffered a serious head injury after falling at his residence in T. Nagar, Chennai. After which he was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai for treatment. But there was no improvement in his condition and he eventually passed away.
