Starc Announces Retires from T20Is

Veteran Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has retired from T20 international cricket. He has taken this decision to focus on Test and one-day cricket. Starc has played 65 T20 matches for Australia and taken 79 wickets.

Starc is Australia’s second-highest wicket-taker in the format, behind Adam Zampa. Starc has taken 79 wickets at an economy rate of 7.74 in a 65-match T20 career that began against Pakistan in 2012. He has played in five of the six T20 World Cups since then, missing only the 2016 season due to injury. He was the hero of Australia’s title win in Dubai in 2014.

The experienced fast bowler is expected to continue playing the remaining two international formats, the IPL and other domestic matches. Following David Warner’s retirement from all formats last year, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have also retired from ODIs this year.

“With the Test tour of India, the Ashes and the 2027 ODI World Cup looming, I think this is the right way to stay fit and at my best. It will also give Australia time to develop a new bowler to take over from me and prepare for the T20 World Cup,” Mitchell Starc said in a statement.
