Monsoon May Arrive In Kerala Before Time: The southwest monsoon may hit Kerala before the expected time. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday that the southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala in the next four to five days, much before the normal date of June 1. The Meteorological Department had earlier predicted that the monsoon would hit Kerala by May 27. According to IMD data, if the monsoon reaches Kerala as expected, it will be the earliest since 2009, when it started on May 23.
In an update on Tuesday afternoon, the IMD said that conditions will likely become favorable for the onset of monsoon in Kerala during the next 4-5 days. Normally, the southwest monsoon hits Kerala by June 1. After this, it covers the entire country by July 8. It starts retreating from northwest India around September 17 and withdraws completely by October 15.
