Mumbai Rain Red Alert: BMC declares holiday for schools and colleges
Mumbai Rain Red Alert: Schools, Colleges Closed: The entire Maharashtra, including the financial capital Mumbai, is in a bad condition due to rain. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for many districts of the state. The red alert of the Meteorological Department means that severe or extremely dangerous weather conditions may occur shortly. People should avoid going out during a red alert. Important points-
It has been raining heavily in Mumbai since Saturday. After heavy rains throughout the night on Monday, the rain intensified from 9 am onwards. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Mumbai and Thane for the next 48 hours. According to the bulletin issued around 11 am, a red alert has been issued for Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara. An orange alert has been issued for Sindhudurg district on Monday and Tuesday. Keeping in mind the safety of the students, a holiday has been declared in the afternoon session today, Monday (18 August 2025), in all the schools and colleges of Mumbai.
Heavy rain in Mumbai
The Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner has instructed all emergency services to remain alert and prepared. Also, citizens have been asked to step out of their homes only when necessary. Local trains are getting delayed due to heavy rains. Trains are running late by 15 to 20 minutes. Water was seen on the tracks at many places. Local trains are running late due to waterlogging on railway tracks in Mankhurd, Govandi, Kurla, and Tilak Nagar. There has been no change in the route of any BEST bus services. Water has accumulated upto the knees in Kurla, Sion, King’s Circle, Hindmata, Andheri, Parel, King’s Circle, JP Road, Milan Subway, and LBS Road. Due to this, there was a traffic jam. Due to office hours, people were seen struggling on the roads.
There is also a danger of high tide in Mumbai’s sea. A high tide of 3.18 meters can occur around 7 in the evening. In such a situation, do not go to the seaside. Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan will review the situation given the heavy rains in the state, including Mumbai. There is also a flood situation in some parts of Marathwada.
On August 16, Mumbai suburbs recorded a record rainfall of 244.7 mm, the third-highest single-day rainfall for August in the last 13 years. Mumbai Police issued a statement on X saying that incidents of waterlogging and poor visibility are being reported from many areas of the city.
