Today is the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Today, the nation remembers and honors two of its greatest leaders — Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, and Lal Bahadur Shastri, India’s second Prime Minister — on their birth anniversaries.
Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869, in Gujarat, remains a global symbol of non-violence and truth. Revered for leading India’s freedom struggle through Satyagraha, a peaceful resistance movement based on non-violence, Gandhi’s principles changed the course of India’s history. Across the country, special programs and tributes are being held to commemorate his legacy and teachings.
His moral leadership and unyielding commitment to truth, simplicity, and unity inspired millions and continue to shape India’s identity and values to this day.
Alongside Gandhi, the nation also celebrates the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, born on October 2, 1904. Known for his humility, simplicity, and integrity, Shastri joined the freedom movement under Gandhi’s influence. After independence, he served in key ministerial roles, including as Railway Minister, and later succeeded Jawaharlal Nehru as Prime Minister.
During his tenure, India faced the 1965 war with Pakistan, where Shastri’s leadership earned him national respect. His powerful slogan, “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer), continues to resonate as a symbol of India’s strength and self-reliance.
On this solemn day, leaders from across the political spectrum, citizens, and students pay tribute to these iconic figures whose values and vision laid the foundation of modern India. Their legacy remains a guiding light for future generations.
