Neeraj Chopra Conferred Honorary Rank Of Lieutenant Colonel In Territorial Army: Two-time Olympic medallist and star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. This information was given in a government notification. This achievement is a matter of pride not only for him but for the entire country.

Neeraj is a two-time Olympic medalist.

The notification was issued by the Department of Military Affairs, Ministry of Defense on May 13. The 27-year-old javelin throw athlete, hailing from Khandra village near Panipat in Haryana, won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He won the silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Neeraj was a Subedar Major in the Indian Army
Neeraj was a Subedar Major in the Indian Army. He was due to retire this year, PTI reported. The notification said, ‘Using the powers conferred by Para-31 of the Territorial Army Regulations 1948, the President confers the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army to Neeraj Chopra, PVSM, Padma Shri, VSM former Subedar Major of Village and Post Office Khandra, Panipat, Haryana from 16 April 2025.’

Dhoni is also a Lieutenant Colonel.

Neeraj is the current world champion who won the gold medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni was given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in 2011.

Neeraj will participate in the Doha leg of the Diamond League competition
Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will take part in the Doha leg of the prestigious Diamond League competition on May 16 along with three other compatriots. This is India’s highest participation in any Diamond League competition. Neeraj, who won the title in 2023 (88.67 meters) and finished second in 2024 (88.36 meters), will participate in the men’s javelin throw event along with Kishore Jena.
