Neeraj Chopra Crosses 90 m Mark : Neeraj Chopra made history at the 2025 Doha Diamond League by surpassing the 90m mark for the first time in his javelin career. With a stellar throw of 90.23m, he joined an elite list of global athletes to achieve this feat. Although Chopra led until the final round, Germany’s Julian Weber overtook.

In a landmark moment for Indian athletics, Neeraj Chopra breached the 90m mark for the first time in his career at the Doha leg of the 2025 Diamond League held on May 16. With a throw of 90.23m, Chopra became the first Indian and only the third Asian to achieve this feat in men’s javelin. However, despite leading for most of the competition, Chopra was overtaken in the final round by Germany’s Julian Weber, who clinched first place with a throw of 91.06m.
At the Qatar Sports Club, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion breached the milestone with a 90.23m attempt, setting a new national record and making an early statement for the season.

“It’s just the beginning,” Neeraj said in a post-event interview. “I’m confident that in the next competitions I will throw more.”

Neeraj Chopra began the meet with what was then a world-leading mark of 88.44m. The reigning world champion fouled on his second attempt but followed it up with the 90.23m throw to reset the Indian national record.

Though Germany’s Julian Weber snatched the win with a 91.06m throw – also first 90m throw of his career – on his final attempt, Neeraj was all smiles after the event.

“I’m happy for Julian too. We have both worked very hard over the years to break 90m,” Neeraj said.”It was a good push for both of us and we’ll keep pushing each other to go even further (this season).”
