Snapchat Limits Free Memories Storage to 5GB; Users Must Pay for More
New Snapchat Policy: Pay To Store More Than 5GB Of Memories: If you’re a regular Snapchat user, there’s an important update that might disappoint you. Snapchat has officially ended unlimited free storage for Memories, the feature that allows users to save their favorite Snaps and videos. Going forward, users will get only 5GB of free storage, and if they exceed that, they’ll need to subscribe to a paid storage plan.
New Snapchat Storage Plans:
- 100GB Plan: $1.99/month (approx ₹165)
- 250GB Plan (Snapchat+): $3.99/month (approx ₹330)
- Platinum Plan (5TB): $15.99/month (approx ₹1,400)
If your saved Memories already exceed 5GB, Snapchat will provide temporary storage for 12 months, allowing you to either download your content or upgrade to a paid plan. After the grace period, your excess data may be deleted if no action is taken.
How to Save Your Memories for Free
Don’t want to pay? You can download your Snaps directly to your phone:

- Tap Export
- Save to your device or cloud storage
A Look Back: The Rise of Snapchat Memories
Snapchat launched the Memories feature in 2016, shifting away from its original 24-hour disappearing content model. It allowed users to build a digital album of moments, turning the app into more than just a temporary messaging platform. Snapchat admits they didn’t expect the feature to become so widely used.
With this update, Snapchat joins other tech platforms in moving toward subscription-based storage models, a trend that could reshape how users manage their digital memories.
