NIRF Ranking 2025: NIRF Rankings released by the Union Ministry of Education

NIRF ranking released, see the list of all top colleges category-wise here: IIT Madras has once again secured the top position in the NIRF India Rankings 2025, maintaining its status as the best higher education institution in the country for the seventh consecutive year. In the overall category, IISc Bangalore ranked second, followed by IIT Bombay in third. The top 10 list also includes IIT Delhi (4th), IIT Kanpur (5th), IIT Kharagpur (6th), IIT Roorkee (7th), AIIMS Delhi (8th), JNU (9th), and BHU (10th).

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the rankings on Thursday. This year, rankings were released in 17 different categories, including a new one based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A total of 14,163 higher education institutions participated, with the highest participation from southern India (5,268 institutions). The minister encouraged more institutions to participate in the future, targeting 15,000 participants next year.

The NIRF rankings aim to guide students during admissions and foster a competitive academic environment. Rankings are based on multiple parameters, such as student-teacher ratio, PhD-qualified faculty, research output, online education, financial management, adoption of NEP 2020, placement records, diversity and inclusion, and public perception of institutions.
