FASTag Annual Rs 3000 Toll Pass Scheme For Private Vehicles From 15 August 2025

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday that the government is going to issue a ‘FASTag’ based annual ‘pass’ for private vehicles. The cost of which will be Rs 3,000. He said that it will start from August 15, which will make it possible to travel on highways without any hassle. Gadkari has now also listed the benefits of this pass.

There will be a saving of Rs 7000 in a year
Gadkari said that this decision taken by the government will enable people to travel on a large scale. Earlier, people had to pay a toll of at least Rs 10,000. Now the new pass costs only Rs 3000, which gives validity of 200 trips annually. One trip means crossing one toll. The advantage of this is that 200 tolls will be crossed, which will cost an average of Rs 15 per toll crossing. This means that people will save Rs 7000 every year. With the introduction of our new system, the need to stop at toll plazas will end. People who used to stop earlier will get the benefit of this scheme. This scheme applies only to national highways and will start from August 15.

Gadkari said this policy addresses long-standing concerns about toll plazas located within a 60 km radius and simplifies toll payment through a single, affordable transaction. The minister said, by reducing waiting time, congestion, and minimising disputes at toll plazas, this annual ‘pass’ aims to provide a faster and smoother travel experience to lakhs of private vehicle owners.

No need to buy a new FASTag

After Gadkari’s announcement, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways clarified that those who already have FASTag will not need to buy a new FASTag. The ministry said, the annual ‘pass’ can be activated on your existing ‘Fastag’, provided it meets the eligibility criteria (ie, it is properly affixed on the windshield of the vehicle, linked to a valid vehicle registration number, not blacklisted, etc.).

Where will it be valid?

The annual ‘pass’ is valid only at National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) toll plazas. At toll plazas of Expressways, State Highways (SH), etc., managed by state governments or local bodies, the FASTag will work as a regular FASTag, and applicable user charges may apply. The highways ministry said the annual ‘pass’ is applicable only for private non-commercial cars/jeeps/vans. It will be deactivated immediately without any notice if used for any commercial vehicle.

The ministry also clarified that the annual pass is not mandatory and the existing FASTag system will continue to work as usual. users who do not opt for the annual pass can continue to use their FASTag for regular transactions as per the user charge rates applicable at the toll plaza.
