Natasha Poonawalla’s Rare Pink Diamond Once Owned by Marie Antoinette Draws Global Attention
Not Nita Ambani! Indian Billionaire Owns Marie Antoinette’s Pink Diamond Worth ₹126 Crore: When discussions turn to rare diamonds and luxury jewelry in India, only a handful of names usually surface. However, one extraordinary possession owned by Indian billionaire Natasha Poonawalla has recently come into focus—a historic pink diamond with roots in European royalty.
On December 15, jewellery expert and fashion content creator Dhrumit Merulia revealed details on social media about a remarkable ring owned by Poonawalla. Known as the “Marie-Thérèse Pink Diamond Ring,” the jewel features a 10.38-carat pink-purple diamond believed to have once belonged to Queen Marie Antoinette of France.
The diamond dates back to the mid-18th century and was later passed on to the queen’s daughter, Marie-Thérèse. It remained within the French royal lineage for generations before being sold for the first time in 1996. Renowned jewellery designer Joel Arthur Rosenthal (JAR) was commissioned to redesign the historic stone, setting it in a striking black platinum band surrounded by 17 diamonds.
In June 2025, the ring was auctioned in New York for nearly $14 million (around ₹126 crore), far exceeding expectations and underscoring its immense historical and artistic value. Natasha Poonawalla is now the proud owner of this rare piece of royal heritage.
Known globally for her bold fashion choices and presence at elite international events, Poonawalla often turns heads at gatherings such as the Met Gala, where her outfits frequently become talking points. Her jewellery collection, however, adds another dimension to her public persona.
Born in Pune, Natasha Poonawalla studied at the University of Pune and later earned a master’s degree from the London School of Economics. She serves as Executive Director of the Serum Institute of India and is Chairperson of the Villu Poonawalla Foundation, which works in education, healthcare, and sanitation.
According to media reports, her estimated net worth stands at around ₹660 crore. She resides with her husband Adar Poonawalla in Mumbai’s iconic Lincoln House, a heritage mansion valued at approximately ₹750 crore. Celebrated designer Manish Malhotra has famously described her as the “Indian Empress of Style,” a title that reflects both her fashion influence and her extraordinary collection of rare jewels.
