Schools, colleges, shops and markets will remain closed during this period. Candlelight vigils will be lit in all citieson 17 july . Congress will pay tribute to Soumyashri by taking out a candle procession. The party has urged everyone to join the bandh call in Odisha.

PCC President Bhakta Das said that this government is incapable of running the administration. So they should step down.
Congress MLA leader Ramachandra Kadam said that the state government is responsible for this incident. The Chief Minister and the Higher Education Minister should resign on moral grounds. The Congress will raise this issue in the Assembly.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that this was not suicide. This was a systematic murder. The brave girl raised her voice against sexual abuse. But they tried to crush her. She was insulted.
Saiyamyashree (20), a student who was undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar after attempting suicide last Saturday after being subjected to mental torture by a teacher, breathed her last on Monday night. Her last rites were performed today at Palasia in Bhograi.
