Odisha Govt Big Announcement : Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has laid emphasis on strengthening primary education in Odisha as per the National Education Policy 2020. The Chief Minister said that primary education is of great importance to achieve the goal of building a prosperous Odisha by 2036. Therefore, keeping this in mind, he has directed to focus more on providing quality education. Today, at Lok Seva Bhavan, the Chief Minister reviewed the programs of the Schools and Public Education Department and gave these suggestions and took many new decisions.
As per the Chief Minister’s decision, steps will be taken to regularize schematic primary teachers.

To strengthen primary education, more teachers are needed as per the new education policy. Currently, there are 1,60,319 posts of teachers in 45,292 primary schools in the state. As per the new education policy, another 39,366 posts will be created. Along with this, 5,067 posts of teachers will also fall vacant by December 2025. Therefore, the Chief Minister has directed to fill up 44,433 posts in the next 3 years by adding all these posts. About 15 thousand posts will be filled every year.

The meeting expressed the need for a single board in the state to strengthen and improve school education. Accordingly, it was decided to form a single board by merging the State Secondary Education Council and the State Council for Higher Secondary Education (BSE, CHSE). Similarly, while free textbooks are provided to children from class 1 to 8 in the state, only Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe children are being provided textbooks in class 9 and 10. The Chief Minister decided in the meeting to provide free textbooks to all children in class 9 and 10.

Along with the educational needs of the students, health is also important. Therefore, it was decided in the meeting to appoint ANMs for the children staying in the hostel. It has been decided to appoint one ANM or Multi-functional Health Worker for every 300 children.
Similarly, the meeting decided to make the new private school approval system a completely online process.

Similarly, the Chief Minister suggested emphasizing on educating tribal children in their mother tongue. The Chief Minister said that this would facilitate linguistic communication with the children and enhance the quality of education. In addition, steps will be taken to establish a multilingual education center in Koraput in collaboration with SCSTRTI.

After that, regular teachers who have done B.Ed. will be appointed as resource persons in various clusters for the education of children with disabilities. It was decided in the meeting that steps will be taken to develop SCERT in the NCERT framework. It was also decided to strengthen the post of Director of Textbook Publication and Marketing.

The meeting was attended by State Minister for Schools and Mass Education Shri Nityanand Gand, Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Shashwat Mishra, Principal Secretary, Finance Department Shri Sanjiv Mishra, Secretary, Schools and Mass Education Mrs. Shalini Pandit, Director, OSEPA Mrs. Ananya Das and senior officers of the department.
