Now, companies like Ola, Uber, and Rapido can charge double the base fare or normal fare during peak hours. The NDA government has allowed some changes in the rules. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has advised the state governments to issue necessary instructions.

As per the current fares, ride-hailing platforms are charging one and a half times the base fare during peak hours. Now, with the government’s permission, they can charge double the fare from passengers during peak hours.

People mainly rely on companies like Ola, Uber, and Rapido for transportation. But now the passengers have faced a big setback. Because the companies can charge double the fare during peak hours. This has been allowed by the government.

There will be no additional charge for the distance travelled by the driver before the start of the trip i.e. ‘dead mileage’, unless the distance to reach the customer is less than 3 km. The fare will be charged only from the starting point of the trip to the destination.

For security reasons, the central government has ordered that it will be mandatory to install VLTD (Vehicle Location & Tracking Device) in all vehicles. This device should be connected to the aggregator app and the Integrated Command and Control Center of the state government so that real-time monitoring can be done.

The government has requested all the states to implement these revised guidelines in their states in the next three months, so that both passengers and drivers can get transparent and safe services.

penalty for cancelling the ride

Now new rules have come into force for both cab service takers and drivers. If a driver or customer cancels a ride after booking without any valid reason, he will be fined 10% of the total fare, with a maximum limit of ₹ 100. This fine will be divided between the driver and the aggregator company. The same rule will also apply when the passenger cancels the ride.
