Online Betting App Scam: ED Summons 29 Celebrities: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sent notices to the giant tech platforms Google and Meta. They have been summoned for questioning on July 21 in connection with the investigation of online betting apps cases. Many influential people are already under investigation for promoting illegal gambling platforms. In such a situation, this notice sent to Google and Meta is being considered an important step for the investigation.

ED alleges that these platforms have promoted betting apps which are currently accused of being involved in serious financial crimes, including money laundering and hawala transactions. Investigations are underway against these platforms. Officials have alleged that these tech companies gave prime advertising slots to betting apps. And promoted their associated websites on their respective platforms. Due to this, their illegal activities reached a lot of people.

Transaction of money through hawala

Recently, ED has started an investigation against a big network of online betting apps. It is alleged that they are involved in illegal gambling in the name of ‘skill-based games’. It is suspected that these platforms are earning illegal money worth crores of rupees. To avoid the attention of agencies, they are transacting money through hawala channels.

ED has filed a complaint against 29 people in this case. These include prominent actors, television hosts, and social media influencers. The names of celebrities like Prakash Raj, Rana Daggubati, and Vijay Deverakonda have been registered in the ‘Enforcement Case Information Report’ (ECIR). The agency says that these people have received huge amounts of money for supporting these platforms.

6,000 crore scam

The Mahadev betting app scam is a similar high-profile case. The total fraud is estimated to be Rs 6,000 crore. Several Bollywood celebrities have been questioned in this case. The ED claims that former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel received more than Rs 500 crore from the promoters of the app.
