Over 800 Flights Affected After System Failure at Delhi Airport: A major technical glitch in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport — the country’s busiest — caused massive delays to over 800 domestic and international flights on Friday. The issue, which affected the Automated Message Switching System (AMSS) used for flight planning, led to widespread disruption across the northern aviation network. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that the problem has now been resolved, though residual delays continue to affect schedules.
The AAI reported that the issue was first detected on November 6, prompting an immediate review meeting led by the Civil Aviation Secretary with senior AAI officials. Additional staff were deployed to manually process flight plans to maintain air traffic operations and ensure safety. Sources said a detailed investigation will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the technical failure.
Leading airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air, confirmed delays in their schedules, urging passengers to stay updated through official channels. IndiGo stated that the outage had been “resolved” and that normal operations were “gradually resuming” at Delhi Airport and other affected airports in the northern region.
The Delhi Airport Authority issued an advisory noting that operations were steadily improving and requested passengers to remain patient. The glitch also had a cascading effect on other airports, including Mumbai, where passengers faced delays due to the disruption in Delhi. Authorities assured that all systems are now stable and flight operations are expected to return to normal soon.
