Journalists in Bihar will now get ₹15,000 pension every month
Pension Announced For Journalists : Nitish Kumar’s big announcement before the Bihar Assembly elections. Now journalists will get a pension of 15 thousand per month. Under the Bihar Journalist Samman Yojana, a monthly pension of 15 thousand rupees will be provided to eligible journalists of the state. Nitish said that this step has been taken with the aim of providing financial security to those who have served in the field of journalism for a long time.
Nitish noted, “Journalists play a crucial role in democracy. They are the fourth pillar of democracy and have a significant role in social development. We have been taking care of journalists’ facilities from the beginning so that they can perform their journalism impartially and live with dignity after retirement.”

How to get the benefits of the scheme?
The main objective of this scheme announced by the Bihar government is to provide financial assistance to senior journalists in their post-retirement life. Journalists who have been defending democracy for many years will benefit from this scheme. It has been said that the money will go directly to the journalist’s account. Not only this, if a pensioner journalist passes away, then his wife will get a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 as family pension.
Who will get pension?
The government has fixed some specific eligibility criteria to avail the benefits of this announced pension scheme:
- Experience: The applicant journalist should have at least 15 years of experience working in any newspaper or TV channel.
- Age: The applicant should be 60 years of age or above.
- Permanent Resident: It is mandatory for the applicant to be a permanent resident of Bihar.
- Other Pension: Journalists who are benefiting from Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) or any other government pension scheme will not be eligible for this scheme.
- Criminal Cases: The applicant should not have been convicted of any criminal case.
The previous plan was revised.
There was a plan for journalists earlier. But now it has been revised. Because in the previous plan, many journalists did not get the benefit of the plan. But the government hopes that all eligible journalists will get the benefit in the new plan. Meanwhile, after the announcement of this plan, happiness has been seen in the media community.
