India-US Trade Talks Intensify as Piyush Goyal Heads to New York Amid Ongoing Tariff Dispute
Piyush Goyal To Visit US On September 22 To Push For Early Trade Agreement: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead a high-level Indian delegation to the United States on September 22 for crucial trade talks, the Commerce Ministry announced on Saturday. The delegation, which includes Special Secretary Rajesh Agarwal and other senior officials, will hold discussions in New York aimed at advancing negotiations toward a mutually beneficial trade agreement.
The visit follows a recent trip by officials from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to India on September 16, during which both sides held constructive talks and agreed to intensify efforts to resolve ongoing trade issues. The Ministry said the objective of Goyal’s US visit is to build on that momentum and accelerate discussions for an early conclusion to the deal.
Goyal’s visit also comes against the backdrop of recent changes to US visa rules and fee structures, which have raised concerns in India. While the primary focus will be on trade, Indian officials are expected to bring up the visa issue during talks, further underlining the comprehensive nature of the discussions between the two strategic partners.
