PM Modi Will Visit Manipur For The First Time After The Ethnic Violence: Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit Manipur in the second week of September. This will be his first visit since ethnic violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki communities in the state in 2023. According to sources, PM Modi will visit Imphal and Churachandpur districts and meet people displaced due to the violence there. During his visit, he will announce several new infrastructure projects and will also inaugurate some projects. Tight security arrangements are being made during this visit, and the situation is being constantly monitored so that peace is maintained during the PM’s visit.

According to sources, more than 250 people have lost their lives in the violence in Manipur since May 2023, and more than 60,000 people are living in relief camps. President’s rule was imposed in the state in February this year, which was extended for another six months in August. The situation has returned to normal to some extent after the President’s rule. Security forces and state police have also recovered about 3,000 weapons out of thousands of looted weapons.

The violence started in protest against the demand to grant scheduled tribe status to the Meitei community. Violence broke out in Manipur after the demonstration of the Kuki community. The central government deployed a large number of security forces to control the situation. Home Minister Amit Shah also visited Manipur. Many steps were taken to restore peace. Despite this, sporadic violence continued to occur there every day.

President’s rule after 21 months of violence
At the same time, President’s rule was imposed in Manipur on 13 February 2025. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had to resign because there was no consensus on leadership within the party. This step was taken after 21 months of violence. Congress also questioned this and targeted BJP. Congress said that this decision was taken late. Congress said that this is a violation of democratic principles. The central government claims that violence has reduced in Manipur and efforts are on for peace.
