PM Modi’s Foreign Visit from Dec 15 to Focus on Ties with Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a three-nation foreign tour from December 15 to 18, visiting Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman, with a focus on strengthening diplomatic trust, economic ties and strategic cooperation.
Addressing a press briefing, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit would provide fresh momentum to India’s partnerships across West Asia and Africa. Senior officials noted that the tour reflects India’s commitment to deepening engagement with its extended neighbourhood.
Prime Minister Modi will begin his tour in Jordan on December 15. On December 16, he will hold talks with King Abdullah II and interact with leading business representatives. He is also scheduled to visit Petra, the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site. Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra highlighted that this marks the Prime Minister’s first bilateral visit to Jordan and coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Notably, it will be the first full-fledged bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Jordan in 37 years, underscoring the longstanding relationship built on trust and goodwill.
The second leg of the tour will take Prime Minister Modi to Ethiopia from December 16 to 17, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since 2011. During his stay, he will address the Ethiopian Parliament. According to the MEA, the visit aims to strengthen India’s partnership with Africa by aligning development cooperation with Ethiopia’s priorities. Discussions will focus on expanding trade, improving connectivity, and enhancing cooperation in infrastructure, information technology, mining, agriculture and manufacturing.
In the final leg, Prime Minister Modi will visit Oman from December 17 to 18 at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. This will be his second visit to the country. MEA officials emphasized the strong political and strategic ties between India and Oman. The Prime Minister will engage with the Omani business community, while officials expressed confidence that Oman will continue to employ skilled Indian professionals despite its Omanisation policy.
The MEA also confirmed that Oman will supply Jaguar aircraft spare parts to India, a move expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Overall, the three-nation tour is seen as a significant step in reinforcing India’s neighbourhood and extended neighbourhood policy, while enhancing cooperation across key sectors and regions.
