Red Fort Metro Gates Reopen: Delhi Back on Track After Blast
Relief has finally arrived for thousands of commuters as all gates at the Red Fort Metro Station reopened on Sunday morning. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed that Gates 2 and 3—closed after the Lal Quila blast incident—are now fully operational, restoring smooth passenger movement in the busy Old Delhi area.
Why were the gates closed?
A recent explosion in a moving car near the Red Fort area sent shockwaves across the city. The powerful blast triggered widespread panic, prompting security agencies to seal off surrounding roads and metro access points. To prevent interference with security inspections, several entry and exit gates at the station were kept shut, and traffic movement in the vicinity was temporarily halted.
Authorities began easing restrictions on Saturday by removing barricades and allowing limited vehicular traffic. With all metro gates now reopened, the situation is gradually returning to normal. Despite the improved accessibility, security forces and inspection teams continue to maintain a vigilant presence in the area.
The reopening of Gates 2 and 3 has offered major comfort to residents and business owners in Chandni Chowk, Daryaganj, the Old Bazaars, and the Red Fort vicinity. Normal metro operations are expected to revive local commerce and significantly ease daily travel.
