Cyclone Shakti Approaches Gujarat with 100 km/h Winds; IMD Issues Rain and Sea Warnings
Shakti Intensifies Into ‘Severe’ Storm: Maharashtra, Gujarat On Alert As Officials Warn: The Arabian Sea’s first post-monsoon cyclone, Cyclone Shakti, has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, creating turbulent sea conditions and strong winds reaching speeds of 100 kilometers per hour. The cyclone is currently positioned about 420 kilometers off the coast of Dwarka, Gujarat, and is steadily moving toward the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shakti will continue to intensify rapidly until Sunday, October 5, after which it is expected to make a U-turn toward Gujarat on October 6. Upon nearing the Gujarat coast, the cyclone is likely to slow down slightly but will still bring significant weather disturbances.
Rainfall Forecast and Affected Areas
The IMD has forecast rainfall for the next seven days across Gujarat, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Surat, Navsari, and Valsad on October 8. Parts of Ahmedabad may also experience light rain during this period.
Fishermen Warned, Rough Seas Ahead
With sea conditions expected to remain very rough along the Gujarat-north Maharashtra coast and the Pakistan coast until Sunday, the IMD has strictly advised fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next five days. Specific warnings have been issued for the northwest Arabian Sea, northeast Arabian Sea, central Arabian Sea, and adjoining coastal areas until Tuesday.
Cyclone Movement and Weakening Trend
Meteorologists predict that Cyclone Shakti will move west-southwestward toward the northwest Arabian Sea and then shift east-northeastward from Monday morning, gradually losing strength as it nears land.
Authorities are closely monitoring the storm’s path and impact, and residents in coastal and vulnerable areas are urged to remain cautious and follow official updates.
