9 devotees killed in stampede at Srikakulam temple in Andhra Pradesh, CM Naidu expressed condolences to the families of the deceased

A massive stampede broke out at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kashibugga, Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, on Saturday, during Ekadashi. Nine people died and several devotees were injured.

According to reports, a large number of devotees had arrived at the temple for darshan during the month of Kartik. The crowd of devotees became so large that the local administration and temple management were unable to control the situation. Relief and rescue operations are underway, and the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police reached the site and managed the situation, officials said.

In a statement posted on X, Andhra Pradesh Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. “The stampede incident at the Venkateswara Temple in Kasibugga in Srikakulam district has caused a shock. The death of devotees in this tragic incident is extremely heartbreaking… I have instructed the officials to provide speedy and proper treatment to those who have been injured.”

He has also requested the local officials and public representatives to visit the site and oversee the relief measures.
