Bill to Hike Salaries and Pensions of MLAs, Ministers to Be Tabled in Assembly Today
The salaries and allowances of MLAs and ministers, along with the pensions of former MLAs, are likely to increase as the government prepares to introduce a key bill in the Assembly today. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling will present the legislation, which includes provisions for revising the salaries, allowances, and pensions of MLAs, ministers, the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and former MLAs.
According to officials, the proposal comes in response to growing demands from both current and former legislators, who argued that rising market prices have made a salary revision necessary. Over the past few months, several MLAs and ex-MLAs raised the issue and urged the government to update their compensation structure.
Notably, both the ruling party and the opposition have expressed unanimous support for the hike, marking a rare moment of bipartisan agreement in the Assembly. The united stance is expected to smooth the passage of the bill.
In addition to the salary hike proposal, the government will also present a resolution regarding the Vande Mataram song in the Assembly today. The resolution is expected to spark discussion on its cultural importance and relevance in legislative proceedings.
Once presented, the bill will be taken up for debate, and a decision on the revised salary and pension structure is expected soon.
