Suryakumar underwent smooth surgery for sports hernia in Germany
Suryakumar’s Hernia Operation Was Successful In Germany: India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav underwent a successful operation for a sports hernia on the right side of the abdomen in Munich, Germany. 34-year-old Suryakumar wrote on his social media handle on Wednesday, ‘Life update: Surgery for sports hernia on the lower right side of the abdomen has been done. I am happy to inform you that after a successful operation, I am now on the path to recovery.’
A sports hernia is a soft tissue injury in the groin or lower abdomen that often involves muscles, tendons, or ligaments. After surgery in Germany, Suryakumar will begin rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

India is scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is on their Bangladesh tour in August. Suryakumar has not played in the 50-over format since the 2023 World Cup final. This was Suryakumar’s third operation in three years. Earlier, he had an ankle operation in 2023 and also underwent sports hernia surgery in 2024.
Suryakumar, who performed brilliantly in the IPL, was the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the 2025 season. He scored 717 runs, although the Mumbai Indians were defeated by the Punjab Kings in the second qualifier in the playoffs. Suryakumar captained Triumph Knights Mumbai Northeast in the Mumbai T20 League.
